Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for much of the San Juan Mountains. New snow and strong winds will create very dangerous avalanche conditions starting Thursday night and lasting through Saturday. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time.

Triggering a large avalanche is difficult right now. Exercise caution on steep wind-drifted slopes that look smooth or wave-like. Dense, hard snow drifts could exist below ridgelines or along the sides of gullies and couloirs and are most likely on north to northeast through east-facing slopes.

Support these forecasts and avalanche education programming across Colorado by donating to Friends of CAIC. From now until February 14th, all donations will be matched up to $10k. Donate Now!
