The general avalanche hazard is LOW at all elevations this morning. Strong westerly winds and forecasted snowfall amounts may develop sensitive soft slabs on lee slopes at mid and high elevations raising the hazard there to MODERATE during the day. Slippery surface hoar exits on the old snow in shaded areas from the past clear weather period. On the highest, steep shaded slopes isolated pockets of hard slab remain and will become more sensitive to release with increased snow load.

The northwest flow will continue to bring light snow to the area Sunday with southwest winds increasing to around 20 mph and daytime highs at 9000 feet in the mid twenties. Snow accumulations are expected to be between 2 and 4 inches. Sunday night will see more light snow and an increase in the southwest winds to 25 mph.AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETONS, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREASThe general avalanche hazard for mid and upper elevations will depend on the total snowfall and wind through the night. Slabs are developing at higher elevations but a few more inches of snow and strong winds will be needed to create a significant hazard. Currently only steep, higher elevation lee slopes have much avalanche potential. The general avalanche hazard at low and mid elevations is expected to reamin LOW and the high elevation hazard will push toward MODERATE if forecasted snow and winds come this evening and tonight.
