You can trigger an avalanche on northerly and east-facing slopes. Strong winds are drifting snow onto an already fragile snowpack. Avalanches can break deep into old, weak snow and can wrap around terrain features becoming larger than you anticipate. Stick to low-angle slopes or southerly-facing slopes without weak layers of snow near the ground. The chances of triggering an avalanche will increase as more snow accumulates during the storm.
