Backcountry travelers venturing into steep terrain are likely to trigger slab avalanches two to four feet in depth on a variety of aspects at all elevations. Mountain temperatures are already close to 20 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. On southerly aspects, these temperatures and sunshine will increase the likelihood of triggering slab avalanches and make natural activity possible. On those sunlit slopes, wet loose sluffs could also release spontaneously. Clear skies and recent new snow may lure skiers and riders into compromising terrain. Evaluate the snowpack carefully, use cautious route finding and make conservative decisions.

A low pressure system to the north will drag cooler air and cloud cover into the region tonight and Tuesday morning. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near 20 before rising to around 30 during the day. Southwesterly ridgetop winds will veer to the west at 20 to 35 miles per hour. Cloud cover will decrease during the day as high pressure builds back into the area.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE on Tuesday. Recently developed slabs rest on a variety of weak layers and sliding surfaces, which include faceted snow, sun crusts and buried surface hoar.
