The avalanche danger is Low today. Rising temperatures will help to weaken snow surfaces and allow for the possibility of shallow wet loose avalanches in very steep terrain. Isolated pockets of shallow wind slab may be encountered in very steep upper elevation terrain. Remember that “Low” danger does not mean “No” danger. Pay attention to changing conditions and move off of steep terrain as snow surfaces become damp today.

Temperatures will be slow to drop below freezing this evening as thick cloud cover limits radiational cooling. Snowline will drop to 7,500’ overnight before rising again in the early afternoon tomorrow. Snow showers will turn to rain due to the increasing temperatures in the middle of the day with an inch or two of total snow accumulation above 8,000’. Wind will shift to the northwest late tomorrow, bringing colder conditions and more snow Friday night. Overall, avalanche hazard will remain Low tomorrow. Thunderstorm activity and heavier rain is possible in the afternoon which could lead to some wet loose sluffing but should be limited due to only one quarter to one half an inch of rain falling on a mostly stable snowpack. Some heavier periods of graupel, snow and even lightning are possible at the upper elevations. Any avalanche activity will remain isolated and generally small. Spring hazards such as cornice fall and falling rocks and ice should be in the back of your mind if you find yourself out in heavy weather tomorrow.
