In sintesi

Natural and human-triggered avalanches will be unlikely on Friday. Exercise normal precaution and anticipate firm and variable snow conditions.

Avalanche Discussion

Temperatures will remain below freezing on Friday, which will keep the snow surface firm. Natural and human triggered avalanches are unlikely. The greatest hazards on Friday will be related to challenging snow surfaces.

On Thursday, I saw some blowing snow on ridge tops around Ball Butte. There is still some lingering soft snow out there that has managed to avoid the effects of wind and sun over the past week. However, this wind-transported snow was not enough to build wind slabs.

With low avalanche danger, there is still a possibility of unstable snow in isolated or extreme terrain. Keep your snow observation goggles on, and practice safe backcountry travel techniques, like traveling one at a time across avalanche terrain.
