In high Alpine regions a considerable avalanche danger will be encountered in some regions.

30 to 50 cm of snow has fallen since Thursday above approximately 3000 m. As a consequence of a moderate to strong southwesterly wind, wind slabs formed in high Alpine regions. 10 to 20 cm of snow will fall until Saturday above approximately 2500 m. The wind slabs of Friday will be covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Persons can release avalanches. These are rather small. The prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase with altitude. Even a small avalanche can sweep climbers along and give rise to falls. The conditions in high Alpine regions are precarious.

Snowpack Over widespread areas snowfall has fallen on bare ground. Only on glaciated north-facing slopes above 3500 m was there generally a cohesive area-wide old snowpack prior to the precipitation. In those areas, the snowpack consists of several layers in the interim, for which reason extensive flat-ground avalanches are also possible in the major areas of precipitation, where the danger levels are expected to decrease less swiftly. The zero-degree level will ascend to an extremely high altitude on Monday: 4500 m. The danger of dry-snow avalanches will decrease. Caution is urged in evaluating glaciated north-facing slopes above approximately 3500 m. As a consequence of the higher daytime temperatures and solar radiation, moist-snow avalanches can be expected, most of all in the high alpine regions of the central and eastern sectors of the northern flank of the Alps and in Grisons. These releases will frequently grow to medium size. In the remaining regions of Switzerland, moist snowslides will be possible.
