In sintesi

Generally safe avalanche conditions exist. Challenging travel conditions are the biggest hazard. Expect firm and smooth slopes at upper elevations and breakable crusts below treeline.

Avalanche Discussion

Docile weather continues and stable avalanche conditions are the norm. The strong temperature inversion is finally eroding at lower elevations and in valleys where warm air is creeping in. The change also brings an end to spring-like conditions at higher elevations. Below freezing conditions have returned to the middle and upper slopes of the mountains. Light rain eventually freezing to the snowpack surface was the result of Tuesday night's precipitation. Reports from near and above treeline suggest that while avalanche conditions are nearly non-existent, firm and challenging travel conditions are the biggest concern. Likewise, below the treeline, a breakable crust has formed after light rain froze to the surface. Use caution while traveling. Knee-twisting breakable crust exists at lower elevations and a slip may result in a slide-for-life on higher elevation open slopes.

During the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, continue to follow the latest guidance from local, state and federal health officials. Avoid unnecessary risks that could impact first responders and stress medical resources.  Wear a mask when appropriate, practice social distancing, and consider recreating closer to home.
