Snow surfaces will soften during the day and increase the wet snow avalanche hazard. Shallow wet slides could be human triggered on steep slopes and in cliff areas during the warmest portion of the day. Dry snow avalanche hazards are limited to isolated pockets of shallow wind slab less than a foot deep. Even small slides can sweep backcountry travelers over cliffs, carry them down very steep couloirs or bury them in terrain traps. Monitor conditions for increasing wet snow avalanche hazards and avoid avalanche prone terrain after snow surfaces become too soft and lose cohesion.

Skies are expected to be mostly clear to partly cloudy with the cloud cover favoring the eastern portion of the forecast area. Temperatures will start out in the mid to upper teens and then warm into the 30s in the mountains and 40s in the valleys. Light westerly winds are expected along high ridges and summits. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low in all the forecast areas. Daily warming will increase the avalanche hazard throughout the day and the potential for wet snow slides. Wet avalanche activity will be most likely found on steep solar aspects, especially where the snowpack is thin with exposed rocks. Below 8,000 feet, areas of isothermal snowpack are developing and could result in wet loose slides. In the Grey’s River and Togwotee Pass forecast areas, it is unlikely but there remains the possibility for a deep slab avalanche, up to 5 feet deep, to be triggered by a snowmobile crossing the thin spot of the slab or a large cornice drop.
