Wind slab
- Above treeline
New snow and wind slabs above approximately 1900 m.
New snow and wind slabs above approximately 1900 m.
The fresh and older wind slabs represent the main danger. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes and in the vicinity of peaks. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as sunny slopes: Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to consolidation of the snowpack. Some mostly small moist snow slides and avalanches are possible here.
In particular above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The old wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Low and intermediate altitudes as well as wind-protected sunny slopes: The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to consolidation of the snowpack.
