An additional four to eight inches of new snow could accumulate in the mountains of Western Wyoming by Tuesday morning. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the mid teens, rising back into the mid 20s tomorrow. Westerly ridgetop winds will veer to the northeast at 15 to 25 miles per hour.If the higher end of forecasted snowfall materializes, the General Avalanche Hazard will rise to MODERATE above 9,000 feet. There, backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of wind slab six to twelve inches in depth in steep, wind loaded avalanche terrain. Any extended periods of sunshine during the day will make these slabs more susceptible to failure, and will also create a chance for wet slides below 9,000 feet in the afternoon.
