These dangerous hard slabs, up to six feet in depth, could be crossed multiple times by skiers or riders before a weak zone is encountered, causing failure of the slope. Skiers and high marking snowmobilers venturing into steep bowls, cirques, couloirs and cliff areas are at greatest risk. Conservative decision making, good travel habits, and the ability to resist peer pressure are all important for safe travel in avalanche terrain today. At the lower elevations, mostly stable snow exists and avalanches are unlikely.
