Forecast Snow Stability: New accumulations of unstable windslab will develop mostly on North-West through North to Easterly aspects mainly above 850 metres. Wind sheltered locations, gully tops and steep coire headwalls will be particularly affected. Greatest instabilities will be where deep accumulations form on the older existing snowpack. Fragile cornices will also start to develop above these aspects. Elsewhere the snowpack will remain well bonded. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The freezing level will lower to around 500 metres. Overnight, persistent snow showers continuing through most of the day. Winds will be East-South-Easterly at first and very strong, becoming South-South-Westerly then Southerly and easing slightly towards the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Snow arrived into the area last night and during the early hours of this morning with slightly more snow present in the Eastern part of Glen Coe. It was generally dry through most of the day with moderate South-Westerly winds. Midday temperature at 1100 metres was minus 0.9 degrees Celsius.

ObservedSnowStability: There are light new snow accumulations mainly above 700 metres which are not deep or extensive. The old snowpack is generally firm and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
