Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: The older snowpack will refreeze and have good stability. Localised and shallow areas of unstable windslab will persist mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres with features such as Gully tops and corrie rims most affected. There will be some redistribution of this windslab onto North and North-East aspects during the day. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds become light overnight before increasing from the South-South-West during the day. It is expected to remain dry with an overnight frost followed by a cool day. Observed Weather Influences: Strong Westerly winds. Rain gradually turned to snow through the day before becoming mainly dry later in the afternoon. The freezing level dropped to around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The existing snowpack was starting to refreeze and has good stability. Localised and shallow areas of fresh, unstable windslab were developing mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 800 metres, with features such as gully tops an corrie rims most affected. The avalanche hazard is Low.
