Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: There will be some consolidation of recent deposits but instabilities will persist within deeper accumulations above 950 metres. These areas will be found around gully tops and corrie rims on North-East to South-East aspects. Older snow will remain well bonded. Stability of any remaining cornices will be suspect. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Mild with rain at all levels overnight. Cooler by dawn with the freezing level around 1000 metres, then 800 metres with light snowfall at the end of the day. Variable fresh winds, Westerly at dawn, backing West-South-West for most of the day. Observed Weather Influences: A cloudy day with occasional snow showers. Around -2 at 900 metres. Winds were strong, South-West to West. ObservedSnowStability: New snow is generally cosmetic but deeper accumulations are present on North-East through East to South aspects above 850 metres. These deposits demonstrated poor stability but were mostly avoidable. Wind sheltered features such as gully tops and corrie rims are particularly affected. New small cornices are developing. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
