Avalanche Activity

A lot of new snow to low altitudes. In the late morning danger level 4 (high) will be reached at intermediate and high altitudes.

As a consequence of new snow and wind numerous dry avalanches are possible, but they can be very large in isolated cases. New snow and wind slabs can over a wide area be released by a single winter sport participant and reach large size. Backcountry touring calls for extensive experience and restraint. The avalanche prone locations are prevalent and are difficult to recognise. Dry avalanches can in some cases penetrate deep layers. As a consequence of new snow and wind the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase in the late morning. In the late morning danger level 4 (high) will be reached at intermediate and high altitudes.

Snowpack Structure

A lot of snow will fall until the early morning. The strong wind has transported a lot of snow. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming during the snowfall are bonding poorly with the old snowpack in many places.
