A fast moving storm deposited new snow on top of a stable snowpack. Avalanches involving the old snow are unlikely today. Shallow wind slabs formed by strong northwest winds could be triggered by backcountry skiers along ridge crests and peaks at the higher elevations. Although small in size, these slides could sweep skiers or riders into rocky terrain features that are typical during early season conditions.

Clouds are to linger through the night and clear during the day on Wednesday as high pressure and inversion conditions develop. The eastern portion of Togwotee Pass could see some snow showers overnight as a system drops into the center of the state. Temperatures are to be near zero degrees at all elevations in the morning with highs in the twenties. Light winds are to veer from the northwest to the northeast and possibly the east by afternoon. The avalanche danger will be Low. The small wind slabs that formed during last night’s storm will be even less sensitive due to both time and cold temperatures. Besides these small isolated pockets, the snowpack is stable.
