In sintesi

It may be possible for skiers and riders to trigger pockets of wind slab on steep terrain features at the higher elevations. Yesterdays high winds may have cross loaded gullies and stripped snow from some areas and redistributed it lower down in avalanche starting zones and along the base of cliffs. Assess the landscape carefully and consider what the potential consequences could be if you trigger even a small slab avalanche.

Backcountry travelers may be able to trigger 1 to 2 foot deep slab avalanches at the higher elevations and in isolated terrain features at the mid elevations. These slabs may be stiff, not fail until you are out on them and be hard to escape.

Avalanche Discussion

Winds are expected to lessen overnight with dry weather forecasted through the weekend. Tomorrow skies should be mostly sunny with light westerly winds. Temperatures will again drop into the single digits and then warm into the 20s and 30s. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Low in all the forecast areas tomorrow. Above 9,000 feet, skiers and riders could trigger small isolated pockets of wind slab on steep terrain. As the day warms, it will be possible for small, shallow wet snow slides to be triggered by a person or occur naturally on steep sunlit slopes. These small slides could be quite dangerous if triggered in terrain with serious consequences like over cliffs or in steep couloirs.
