Avalanche Activity

The strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs of the last few days must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. These have formed especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. They can be released very easily. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. Avalanches can be triggered in the old snowpack reach large size in particular on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. Snow sport activities outside marked and open pistes call for experience and great restraint.

Snowpack Structure

The large quantity of fresh snow of last week and in particular the wind slabs formed by the strong wind are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack. The strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes. Avalanches can in some places be released in deep layers in particular on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes.
