Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will persist on North-West through North-East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. Areas most affected will be steep wind sheltered terrain such as coire rims and gully tops. Fragile cornices will be present above the same aspects. Stability better at lower elevations and in places exposed to the wind. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers above 600 metres overnight, then a drier interlude before further snow in the afternoon. The freezing level will fluctuate around 650 metres initially, decreasing from midday to 400 metres. Moderate South-Westerly winds will veer North-North-West throughout the day while increasing to become fresh. Observed Weather Influences: Heavy snowfall overnight became showery through the day. Following a cold night, the freezing level rose to around 750 metres. Light to moderate Southerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: Overnight fresh snow to glen level, however at lower elevations this was thawing throughout the day. Unstable windslab is present on steep North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. Fragile cornices overhang many of these locations. Generally good stability on windward aspects and ridges. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
