Avalanche Activity

In some localities increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation.

During the day: In steep rocky terrain and on sunny slopes small and medium-sized moist avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Especially adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls: The fresh snow of Sunday as well as the scattered wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. This applies in particular on very steep shady slopes. Backcountry touring calls for caution.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 30 cm of snow, and up to 50 cm in some localities, fell on Sunday. Especially in the areas bordering Piedmont. Where it is gradually settling down. Down to 900 m snow has fallen since Sunday in some localities. The wind was light to moderate adjacent to ridgelines. In some places new snow is lying on the soft surface of an old snowpack. Or on crusts. Towards its surface, the snowpack is soft and has a loosely bonded surface. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes. Especially adjacent to ridgelines in all aspects: Over a wide area snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.

Tendency

The weather will be cold. Strong northerly wind: The avalanche danger will increase during the day.
