You can trigger avalanches in freshly wind-drifted snow in steep upper-elevation terrain. Look for rounded pillows of snow and changes in snow density as you approach the top of gullies. If these crack when weighted, you have found dangerous snow.
Any avalanche breaking in the new storm snow could trigger a deeper avalanche. There could be multiple sets of tracks on a slope before you find a weaker area of the slope and trigger a deadly avalanche. Edges of heavily wind-loaded slopes and those with lots of trigger points will be particularly hazardous. You can find safer travel on low-angled slopes and in sheltered areas.
