The potential for wet snow avalanches is greatest on north and east-facing slopes at upper elevations. If you find yourself sinking into wet snow past your ankles, call it a day. Strong winds may keep the surface frozen on Monday, but wet, weak snow may still be lurking underneath. Dig down to check or stick to lower angle slopes.
Starting and ending your day early is a good strategy to reduce your risk of avalanches.
