In sintesi

At the mid and upper elevations a buried layer of surface hoar one to two feet below the snow surface has been a concern. This persistent weak layer has only been recently active in response to cornice drops. Some potential may remain for snowmachines, cornice drops or large groups of skiers or riders to trigger hard slab avalanches in isolated areas. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.

In isolated areas hard slabs lie upon faceted snow and hard crusts, which formed in January. Some potential may persist for humans to trigger hard slab avalanches up to two feet in depth in steep terrain at the mid and upper elevations.

Avalanche Discussion

Cold northwest flow aloft will bring a second Canadian cold front into central Wyoming. Clouds and light snowfall are likely overnight with the best chances for accumulating snow east of the Continental Divide. Accumulations of an inch or so are expected in our forecast areas. Temperatures will drop to around 10 degrees overnight and rise into the 20s on Monday. Slowly clearing skies are forecast during the day. North to northeast winds will back towards the northwest at speeds of 10 to 20 miles per hour.Mostly stable snow exists. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Isolated areas of instability associated with a buried layer of surface hoar may persist. Avalanches are unlikely, however some potential may remain for larger triggers such as snowmachines to trigger hard slab avalanches up to two feet deep in very steep terrain.
