Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on high-altitude northerly and easterly slopes. Look for and avoid pillows of snow that the wind has drifted to form stiff slabs. If you see cracking or collapsing in the surface, avoid steep slopes. The storm will deposit more significant amounts of snow in the northern portion of the Sangre de Cristo range, so use extra caution the further north you travel. You can find safer travel on lower-angled slopes or those where the wind has not drifted snow.
