Avalanche Summary

Thick, hard slabs of snow rest above weak, collapsible snow near the ground on northerly and east-facing slopes, and where you could trigger an avalanche. You may find deeper, wind-drifted areas that span adjacent terrain features on upper-elevation slopes. Avalanches triggered near the surface may break deeper producing a larger, more dangerous slide. Use caution traveling above terrain traps or cliff bands if you see evidence of recent drifting like smooth, rounded snow pillows. Lower-angled, wind-sheltered areas offer safer travel options.

Over the next several days, snow surfaces will become wet on east, south, and west-facing slopes, especially at lower elevations where the snowpack is weaker overall. Consider the terrain below you, where a small avalanche could have big consequences. Move off steep slopes once you sink past your ankles into wet snow.
