In sintesi

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Over a foot of new snow from a storm ending Sunday and westerly winds have formed surface slabs on steep, leeward slopes to depths of eighteen inches. Riders and skiers have the potential to trigger these slabs as well as hard slabs up to 30 inches deep that rest on a persistent weak layer at the base of the snowpack. Hard slabs are dangerous and unpredictable as they could be triggered by the first person on a slope or after a slope has been crossed many times.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. ) Overcast skies with a chance of light snow are on tap for Tuesday morning. A storm system will move into the area around midday with light to moderate snowfall. Temperatures at 9,500 feet will be in the single digits at dawn then warm to near 20 degrees f. during the day. Ridgetop winds will be southwesterly at 10 to 15 miles per hour. The General Avalanche Hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE in the Tetons and Greys River areas. The chance of backcountry users to trigger large, dangerous soft and/or hard slabs 4 feet in depth or deeper continues. Steep slopes with good wind fetches, cliffs above or below, ravines and terrain traps should be avoided at all elevations. In the Togwotee Pass area the hazard is expected to be MODERATE.
