Fresh wind slabs require caution.

As a consequence of the sometimes strong wind the wind slabs have increased in size additionally on Wednesday. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released, especially at their margins. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack. These avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye. In particular between approximately 2000 and 2800 m and in the north these avalanche prone locations are more widespread. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

The sometimes strong wind has transported the new snow. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes. Whumpfing sounds are a clear indication. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. At low and intermediate altitudes less snow than usual is lying. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas and at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions a little snow is lying.

The weather will be sunny. The avalanche danger will persist.
