Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will build on North, through East to South aspects, above 800 metres, with distribution becoming more significant. Deepest deposits will form in steep wind sheltered locations such as gully tops and corrie rims. Fragile cornices will form, largest on North-East to South-East aspects. Elsewhere the terrain will be mostly wind scoured and bare. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation throughout the forecast period, falling as snow above 500 metres, will be heaviest during the morning. Strong South-Westerly winds overnight, increasing to severe gale force by morning, easing as they veer North-North-Westerly during the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Light to moderate precipitation, falling as snow to glen level during the morning, easing by early afternoon. The freezing level was around 500 metres. Gale force Westerly winds. ObservedSnowStability: Isolated and avoidable areas of unstable windslab are building on North-East to South-East aspects above 850 metres. Areas most affected are steep, wind sheltered locations such as gully tops and corrie rims. Cornices are beginning to build above these aspects. Elsewhere the snow cover is thin or wind scoured. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
