Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: New snow and wind transport of existing snow and rime will form weakly bonded windslab in wind sheltered locations, greatest accumulations are expected to form above 850 metres in sheltered gullies and on slopes with a mainly North-West through North to North-Easterly aspect, cross loading may affect other aspects, fragile cornices may form above similar areas. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: New snow overnight and through Sunday with potential to be heavy will affect slopes mainly above 600 metres, winds will be generally South-South-Easterly gale force overnight becoming moderate to fresh South-South-Westerly through Sunday. The freezing level overnight will be around 400 metres rising to 800 by morning. Observed Weather Influences: Cold, dry and settled conditions have affected the area with an overnight frost at all levels, winds have been light to moderate South to South-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is generally frozen hard and stable in most areas. Localised areas of unstable windslab exist on steeper slopes with a mainly Westerly and North-Westerly aspect above 950 metres. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
