Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: New unstable windslab will develop mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Greatest hazard will be found on steep wind sheltered locations such as coire rims and gully tops where accumulations will develop over older snow-ice and only be moderately bonded. Old snow will be very firm and icy. Cornices will start to redevelop. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snowfall is expected, down to the glens overnight but generally above 600 metres during the day. Gale force winds overnight but easing slightly during the day, initially South-West, veering during the day to the West. Observed Weather Influences: Precipitation falling as snow around the higher summits by mid morning, otherwise, rain at all other levels. Freezing level had dropped to 900 metres by afternoon. Winds were storm force, but easing to gale force in the afternoon. ObservedSnowStability: The majority of the snowpack is thawing at all levels but remains generally well bonded. New shallow snow accumulations were limited to around corrie rims and gully tops mainly on North to East aspects above 950 metres. Cornice stability remains suspect. The avalanche hazard is Low.
