Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on very steep shady slopes at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. The wind slabs are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. On slopes small and medium-sized wet avalanches are possible as the day progresses as a consequence of warming during the day.

Snowpack Structure

10 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell yesterday above approximately 1700 m. The moderate wind has transported the new snow significantly. The new snow has settled to a large extent at low and intermediate altitudes. Intermediate and high altitudes: The surface of the snowpack will soften during the day. This applies in particular on sunny slopes, as well as at low and intermediate altitudes.
