The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. At the highest elevations soft surface slabs up to 18 inches deep lie upon a weak layer of faceted snow. These slabs could be triggered by humans in steep wind loaded avalanche starting zones.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The current weather system will bring several more inches of snow to the mountains Thursday night. On Friday another storm system moving in from the south will bring another round of light snow to the area. Mountain temperatures will be in the single digits in the morning and rise into the teens in the afternoon. Winds will back to the south and decrease to 10 to 15 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE at the higher elevations (above 9,000 feet), MODERATE at the mid elevations (9,000 to 7,500 feet and LOW below an elevation of 7,500 feet. Soft slabs up to two feet in depth could be easily triggered by humans or release naturally in steep upper elevation avalanche starting zones.
