The General Avalanche Hazard this morning is LOW at the mid and high elevation and MODERATE at the low elevation, and will increase to MODERATE at all elevations as the day warms. Overnight lows hovered near freezing at the mid and high elevation, temporarily increasing stability, but remained above freezing at the low elevation. The hazard will raise proportional to the amount of heat and sun absorbed by the snowpack during the day. This morning, daily warming and sunshine will continue to melt the upper snowpack resulting in wet, loose surface slides, along with the possibility of deeper wet slabs. In the afternoon, any valley rain will continue to destabilize the lower elevation snowpack.

A moist southwest flow ahead of an upper low over southern California will bring rain and snow showers to the montains tonight and Saturday. Upper elevations could see up to three inches of new snow by morning. Lows tonight will be in the upper twenties and highs tomorrow in the low forties.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard tomorrow will be MODERATE as little overnight cooling is expected and new snow will easily slough off the crusts. As the day warms the possibility of slides growing to dangerous sizes will rise. The danger from large, wet loose slides at Mid to Low elevations will increase with rain and warming.
