In sintesi

Abundant sunshine and warm temperatures will soften snow surfaces and increase the hazard in the afternoon. Some potential may persist for snowmobiles to trigger deep hard slab avalanches in isolated areas where weak faceted snow persist near the base of the snowpack. These dangerous slab avalanches are more likely to be triggered when multiple sleds are on a suspect slope at the same time and after sunshine and warm and warm temperatures have softened the snow surfaces. Mostly stable snow exist at the lower elevations and avalanches are unlikely except for shallow wet slides on very steep sunlit aspects during the heat of the day.

    In isolated areas weak, faceted snow persists near the base of the snowpack. Some potential may remain for snowmobilers or multiple snowmobiles on the same slope to trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches up to six feet deep. In these areas previous tracks on a slope are not an indication of stability. If a member of your party gets stuck on a suspect slope, refrain from adding additional weight to the snowpack by helping them get unstuck.

    At the upper elevations isolated pockets of wind slab up to eighteen inches in depth could be triggered by skiers or riders who venture onto very steep slopes, into areas with cornices and into cliff areas. Sunshine and warming temperatures will increase the sensitivity of these shallow surface slabs to human triggers.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Dry conditions with mostly clear skies and warmer temperatures will occur under the existing high pressure ridge. Overnight lows will be in the upper teens. On Tuesday temperatures will rise into the upper 30s and 40s in the mountains and to near 50 degrees in the valley. Winds will back to the southwest and increase from speeds of 10 miles per hour around daybreak to 20 miles per hour with higher gusts by sunset. The general avalanche hazard is expected to LOW in the morning in the Teton area and at the lower elevations of the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails/Greys River areas. It will be MODERATE at the mid and upper elevations of the Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails/Greys River areas where some potential may persist for snowmobilers to trigger deep hard slabs with depth to six feet in isolated areas. The abundant sunshine and warm temperatures will increase the hazard in all areas during the afternoon hours.
