Storm conditions continue tomorrow. With lots of new snow up high (above 2000 m, est over 1m of new snow in the last 2 days) and more on the way tomorrow, the storm slab hazard is high.

Backcountry travel is not recommended until the new snow has had time to settle.

Current Snowpack Conditions

100mm of rain has fallen in the last 2 days, with snow above 2000m and gale NW winds. Below 2000m, there was limited new snow as the freezing level fluctuated. Above 2000m, limited snow existed before 80cm of snow fell last week, which had a few days to settle. Limited layers of concern exist within the old snow.

Mountain Weather

Showers, turning to rain for a time in the afternoon and evening, possibly heavy. Snow possible above 1700 metres. Winds northwesterly gale 75 km/h, rising to severe gale 95 km/h late morning, easing to westerly 50 km/h in the evening. Freezing level 2000 metres, lowering to 1700 metres at night.

Sliding Danger

Expect firm areas from the sun melting and then the surface refreezing at night. Crampons and ice axe a good idea for ridge travel.
