Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of the snowfall the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses. Wind slabs above approximately 2600 m.

Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes. New snow and wind slabs are lying mostly on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. This applies in particular on east and south facing slopes and. On wind-loaded slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain the situation is more precarious.

Snowpack Structure

Especially shady slopes where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The wind slabs can be released in particular on steep north, northwest and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2600 m.
