The wind slabs can be released in some cases in particular on very steep shady slopes.
The wind slabs represent the main danger. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Snow sport participants can release avalanches in isolated cases, including medium-sized ones. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on extremely steep sunny slopes.
The meteorological conditions facilitated a gradual change towards better conditions in all aspects. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack, especially on shady slopes above approximately 1700 m. The more recent wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. The wind slabs are to recognise and can be released in isolated cases especially at their margins.
