Avalanche Activity

Unfavorable conditions: mild temperatures, lack of outgoing radiation

Numerous small-to-medium naturally triggered wet-snow avalanches can be expected even in the morning. Also naturally triggered glide-snow avalanches are possible. Caution urged on slopes with glide cracks in all aspects, avalanches can fracture down to deeper layers inside the snowpack and then sweep away the entire snowpack. Danger zones for dry-snow slab avalanches are limited to shady high altitude slopes.

Snowpack Structure

Mild temperatures, lack of nocturnal outgoing radiation and some rain are together causing a huge loss of firmness inside the snowpack, on sunny slopes up to high alpine regions, on shady slopes up to high altitudes. At intermediate altitudes the old snow is thoroughly wet, below 1400 m there is little snow on the ground. Particularly on high-altitude shady slopes the near-surface layers are still prone to triggering.

Weather Synopsis

Nocturnal hours: heavily overcast skies, but mostly dry. Some rainfall in early morning. Sunday: heavily overcast skies, some light rain, soon tapering off, the clouds dispersing and a bit of sunshine. Convective cloud build-up in the afternoon, occasional showers possible, snowfall above 2000-2400 m. At 2000m: 2-5 degrees. Moderate SW winds.

Tendency

Monday will still be variable with rain, snowfall above 1600 m. The danger of dry-snow avalanches could increase again. Also wet-snow avalanches will still be possible.
