Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a strong wind from northerly directions, wind slabs formed since Sunday above the tree line. The strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. The avalanche prone locations are to be found on wind-loaded slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Wind slabs are clearly recognisable.

Tendency

As a consequence of rising temperatures solar radiation the snowpack will consolidate during the next few days.

Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects above approximately 1800 m.

The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released easily or naturally. In particular at the base of rock walls and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls small and medium-sized avalanches are possible. Avalanches can in isolated cases be triggered in the old snowpack.
