Forecast Snow Stability: New unstable windslab will develop on South-West through West to North aspects above 900 metres. Greatest amounts of windslab will be found in wind sheltered terrain with stability poorest particularly around gully tops, scarp slopes and on steep convex features. Elsewhere, there will be drifts to low levels with older snow very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be snowfall throughout this period. Initially to lower levels but showers likely to lift above 600 metres as the freezing level rises to around 1000 metres in the afternoon. Strong winds throughout, East overnight veering during the day to become South-East by late afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A cold day with the freezing level around 800 metres at midday. Cloudy with light precipitation in the afternoon. Winds were fresh from the North-East. ObservedSnowStability: The patchy snow cover is firm and well bonded. Remaining snow was found in lee locations on most aspects above 600 metres with deepest amounts around corrie rims and in gully exits on North-West to North-East aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
