The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften later than the day before. As a consequence of warming during the day there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches. Thus far only isolated small and medium-sized natural avalanches are possible, caution is to be exercised in particular at the base of rock walls, as well as on extremely steep sunny slopes. Backcountry tours, off-piste skiing and ascents to alpine cabins should be started very early and concluded timely. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the snowpack on shady slopes. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in high Alpine regions. Avalanches can be released in the old snowpack, in particular by large additional loads.
The snowpack is largely stable and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. The high temperatures in the late morning will give rise to rapid moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. In particular shady slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Towards its surface, the snowpack is dry; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow.
