Avalanche Activity

Unexpected weather pattern: In localities where more snow falls the avalanche danger is greater. The new snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

The fresh wind slabs can be released even by a single winter sport participant above the tree line. On steep slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain small and medium-sized dry slab avalanches are possible. At elevated altitudes the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. Small and medium-sized dry loose snow avalanches are possible as a consequence of the new snow. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. In localities where more snow falls the avalanche danger is greater.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of new snow and wind, wind slabs will form. Snow depths vary greatly at intermediate and high altitudes, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes a little snow is lying.
