Avalanche Activity

GC15/3 Cooler light new snow. Snow will start to refreeze Areas of windslab in gully exits+NW-N-E 900m+ cornices suspect Av Haz Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: With only light amounts of new snow expected general snowpack stability will remain good. Cooler conditions will start to firm up the existing snow cover above 900 metres. Southerly winds and new snow will form isolated areas of windslab mainly in sheltered summit gully exits and around corrie rims with a North-West through North to Easterly aspect above 900 metres. Any cornices in these areas will remain suspect. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A trace of new snow in the morning with further light snowfall from mid afternoon will affect slopes mainly above 900 metres. Winds will be strong South to South-South-Westerly. The freezing level will be in the region of 900 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Fresh Southerly winds with light showers of rain or snow on the higher tops have affected the area. Cooler overnight, the freezing level was hovering around 1100 metres. ObservedSnowStability: In the main the snowpack is stable, it is moist at lower levels with a breakable thin melt freeze crust above 1000 metres. Surface wet snow instabilities exist on the steepest slopes and gullies but these are mainly avoidable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
