Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will consolidate as the freezing level rises overnight and then will refreeze above 900 metres during Wednesday. Fresh unstable windslab will form mainly on steep North-West, North and North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Other wind sheltered locations will also be affected. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A brief warm period is expected early on Wednesday with the freezing level at around 1200 metres. During daylight hours, the freezing level will drop to around 850 metres with snow showers and moderate Southerly winds. Observed Weather Influences: Overnight snow above 500 metres turned to snow showers during today. Winds have been from a South-Westerly direction. ObservedSnowStability: Localised areas of unstable windslab are present in areas sheltered from the South-Westerly winds. Greatest accumulations are on scarp slopes, gullies and crag aprons with a North, North-East and East aspect above 1000 metres. Large fragile cornices have also quickly formed over the last 24 hours above these aspects. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
