In sintesi

Making up a small portion of terrain available to ride on today, in the wind zone, at and above treeline, you'll find pockets of MODERATE avalanche danger. Human triggered avalanches are possible on steep wind drifted, upper elevation slopes, especially those with an easterly component to their aspect. And here's something to consider... if you're getting into steep, technical terrain, even a small slide can knock you off your ride, slam you into a tree, and throw a curve ball at your day.

Lose a little elevation, you lose the wind and you'll encounter generally LOW avalanche danger.

    Isolated to steep, leeward terrain in the wind zone, a few lingering wind drifts may react to your additional weight. Not particularly widespread, but remember... if you're tagging steep, technical terrain, be aware that even a small slide could knock you off your feet and boss you around. So, the ticket to riding safely today is simply look for and avoid any fat, rounded piece of snow, especially if it sounds hollow like a drum.

Snow and Weather

Currently-

Wow... what a nice surprise! Yesterday's storm blossomed into quite the medium density snow producer, delivering an evenly distributed 7" of snow and .80" H2O to most upper elevation terrain throughout the range. However, I think a few favored areas on the North Slope stacked up closer to 10" of snow and almost an inch of water. Under partly cloudy skies, a big, bright, beautiful moon casts some curious shadows and a beautiful silhouette of our mountains. Current temperatures register in the teens and low 20's and southwest winds blow 15-25 mph along the high peaks. With a fresh coat of white paint, riding and turning conditions are greatly improved and wind sheltered, shady slopes are the ticket.

For today-

Expect mostly cloudy skies with a scattered snow shower or two drifting into the region throughout the day. Southwest winds remain reasonable and in the mid to upper 20's. High temperatures climb into the mid 30's.

Futurecast-

A midweek storm dives to the southern half of the state with little impact for the Uinta zone.
