In sintesi

Expect spring-like conditions.  Saturday will be sunny and a few degrees warmer than Friday.  Wet Loose avalanches will be the primary concern, so consider your aspect and timing when planning where to ride.

    Wet Loose avalanches occurr when the sun and warm tempratures melt the surface snow.  Initially this melting or softening should provide good riding, but as melting extends deeper into the snow pack, the newly weakened snow can lead to avalanches.  These point release avalanches should be more predictable, since as riders we are interacting with the weak surface snow.  Additionally these avalanches will first initiate on steeper terrain, and can be preceeded by roller balls.

    Since overnight low temperatures are below freezing, this avalanche problem should be entirely avoidable by timing your tour correctly and avoiding steep terrain as things become unstable.

    Remember the sun will have a huge impact on stability tomorrow, and Wet Looset avalanches are likely on steep South faces by tomorrow afternoon.

Avalanche Discussion

After two days of sunny skies, the snow surface varies with aspect.  Most slopes that see sun have likely gone through a melt freeze cycle.  We haven't been finding any peristent weak layers in our snowpack.  Instabilities on Saturday will be primarily related to the sunny weather and warm temperature.
