Avalanche Activity

In regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanche prone locations are prevalent and the danger is level 4 (high).

Above approximately 1000 m snow will fall until midday. A very large quantity of fresh snow as well as the sometimes deep wind slabs are very prone to triggering in all aspects. The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released naturally. In these regions numerous large and, in isolated cases, very large avalanches are to be expected. The peak of avalanche activity will be reached from the second half of the night probably. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and endanger exposed transportation routes. Without question, it is inadvisable to engage in ski touring, freeriding and snowshoe hiking.

Snowpack Structure

100 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since yesterday. Above approximately 1000 m snow will fall until midday over a wide area. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The easterly wind will transport the new snow. Intermediate and high altitudes: Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on shady slopes.

Tendency

Large quantities of fresh snow and the wind-drifted snow remain for the foreseeable future prone to triggering.
