In sintesi

The snowpack is generally stable and triggering a large avalanche is unlikely. Small wet loose avalanches are possible on very steep, rocky slopes receiving direct sun, particularly where the snowpack is thin. Watch for isolated slopes with pockets of recently wind-drifted snow at upper elevations.

    Warm temperatures and a strong dose of spring sunshine will bring wet snow avalanches to the table today. The snow surface will start out with a solid freeze this morning, but the crust on top will break down as the sun climbs higher in the sky. Pay attention to the surface of the snow you are traveling on and the terrain that is above you. If it is becoming wet and slushy and you are sinking in more than a few inches these types of slides will be possible. They will start out at a point and fan out as they travel downslope. This problem will be most likely on very steep slopes receiving direct sunshine where rocks and trees help to heat up the snow surface, particularly where the snowpack is only a foot or two thick.

WIND SLABS: The trace-1" of new snow that fell on Saturday night was blown into small, isolated drifts by NW winds. Sun Valley Ski Patrol reported finding fresh drifts up to 6 inches thick on Sunday. Look for similar pockets of windblown snow near ridgelines and on the sides of cross-loaded gullies and chutes. These will be more common at upper elevations but you may find some slabs at middle elevations as well. Some of them formed on slick, icy crusts and well-developed facets. They won't be large enough to bury you but they could knock you off your feet or your sled and carry you downslope.
