Conditions are generally safe, and avalanches are unlikely. Small wet slides may become possible as the day warms up. If the snow surface turns to wet mush, head for colder slopes or gentler terrain.

    You may find cold, dry snow in upper elevation due north-facing terrain, but most slopes are in a melt-freeze cycle. Overnight temps in the teens to low 20s F, combined with partly clear skies, means the snowpack will start the day with a harder, frozen surface. Highs are forecast to be in the warm-but-not-hot range, and we may see increasing clouds and wind this afternoon on the toes of an approaching storm system. These factors will limit the possibility—and potential size—of wet slides. Still, pay attention to how much the snow surface is melting. If you're beginning to break through the surface crust or sinking into wet mush, it's time to head for colder slopes or lower-angled terrain.  We're expecting a bump in avalanche danger tomorrow with the arrival of a spring storm and snowfall isolated to upper-elevation terrain.

It's been a pleasure writing to you all. Thanks to all the professionals and the public who submitted observations this season. We value that you take the time to do this, as does the community. Having the best idea of what's happening in the mountains, both for the forecast and at an individual level, always benefits from more information. We strive to improve the forecast product and tools available to you each season. Play it safe this spring, have fun, and see you again when the snow flies. 

BTAC will be issuing the final daily avalanche forecast on Saturday, April 20th but will continue with General Snow and Avalanche Information Bulletins two times per week until May. We will update the Big Sheet daily until June 1st.
